The M84 Stun Grenade

A stun grenade (also known as a flashbang) is a small explosive device that, when thrown, emits a large flash of light and a very loud bang that temporarily blinds and deafens those affected in the vicinity. They are commonly used by military and special police forces in house clearing and surgical raids.

Capable of stunning observers with a combination bright flash and loud report, flashbangs are commonly tossed into rooms to 'prepare' rooms prior to entry. The valuable seconds gained while potential hostiles recover from the stun effects can mean the difference between life and death to a tactical team. Also known as distraction devices or stun grenades.

The Stun Grenade is a non-lethal grenade featured in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege. When thrown, anyone looking at the grenade when it explodes, and anyone in close proximity to the grenade, regardless if they were looking at it, will get temporarily blinded and deafened.

Stun Grenades are very useful for room clearance, where they can give the Attackers an edge over the Defenders. This is especially true in hostage situations, where using lethal grenades or other explosives could lead to accidentally kill the hostage. Stunned operatives cannot see or hear for a period of 5 seconds. They still can move, however, allowing for a stunned person to get into cover and wait off the effects.

As such, it is important to coordinate its use with teammates as it will also affects allies and could ultimately lead to their deaths. Like most thrown projectiles, Jäger's Active Defence System can intercept and destroy the grenade mid-air. Blitz's Shield can also create a similar effect.

Getting hit directly by the Stun Grenade deals a small amount of damage.

Gameplay Statistics

When the enemy is facing towards a Stun Grenade, its maximum reach is 15 metres, with full temporary blindness being caused at distances up to 11 metres. Facing away from the Stun Grenade significantly reduces the effective range at which visual impairments will be caused down to only 3 metres. Temporary hearing loss starts at 8 metres distance, independent of the target's orientation.
