Fabrique Nationale P90
From Rainbow Six Wiki
The 5.7mm P90 SMG is a blowback operated, selective fire weapon. It is fed from 50-rounds box magazines, made from translucent polymer. It was developed in the late 1980s and may be referred as a forerunner of the PDW (Personal Defense Weapon) concept. The P90 is a bullpup design, meaning that the trigger is located forward of the action and the chamber. This allows for a weapon design significantly shorter and more controllable than a standard weapon. The 50 round magazine is located on the top of the weapon, and empty brass shells are ejected downward from the chamber. This allows the P90 to circumvent a common problem with the bullpup design, that of empty brass flying in the face of a left handed shooter. The 5.7mm round, while significantly less powerful than the 5.56mm NATO round, is more powerful than the pistol cartridges commonly used in PDW's and submachine guns, such as the 9mm and the .45 caliber. It has the ability to penetrate level II and level IIIA body armor due to its high velocity and the unique bullet design. The 5.7mm round is also considered to be much more controllable than other rounds in its class. Fabrique Nationale reports that it has "60% of the recoil of the 9mm NATO round".
