A hand grenade is a small, light-weight, timed explosive device. Grenades can inflict severe damage against infantry and other soft targets. Most hand grenades used are fragmentation grenades, often abbreviated to "frags", which litter an area with shrapnel, inflicting severe damage on infantry and lightly armored targets.

The Frag Grenade is an explosive grenade featured in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege. It is an alternative to the Breach Charge. When activated by pressing the fuse button, the operator has a 4 second time period to throw the grenade. If not thrown after three and one half seconds from pressing the fuse button, the grenade will explode in their hand, killing them and damaging nearby players.
Frag Grenades are very useful for room clearing, where they can drive out the Defenders from their defenses or kill them where they sit. Frag Grenades do 142, 120 & 105 points of maximum explosive damage against the respective armor types, killing many operators instantly when in close proximity.
Another use is for breaching walls, as the explosion can tear through destructible objects much like its alternative although the explosion will cause several smaller holes instead of one big one. Unfortunately, the grenade kills indiscriminately, meaning that friendly fire is an issue. A single bad rebound can severely injure or kill your teammates, so caution is advised.
It is best advised to try not to throw a grenade in the hostage room, as there is a significant chance the hostage can be killed, causing the Attacking Team to lose the round or match.
As the grenade can be thrown back, it is a good idea to "cook" the grenade, by holding the grenade button for a time before releasing. However, cooking a frag grenade for too long will cause it to explode in your hand.
Like other throwable gadgets, getting hit directly by the Frag Grenade deals 5 points of damage.
Trivia
General
- The Frag Grenade in Vegas series and Siege games is modelled after the M67 grenade.
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas 1 and 2
- When a player throws the grenade, the pin and spool incorrectly still stay on the grenade. There is no animation for pulling the pin.
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege
- Contrary to popular belief and its realistic counterpart, the Frag Grenade explodes about 4 seconds after the fuse button is pressed and about 3.5 seconds after the pin is removed in the animation.
- Frag Grenades can be defused even when the fuse button was pressed via switching to another weapon.
- Frag Grenades don't have a damage drop off to friendly players.
- Frag Grenades can be thrown even after leaving the player's hand by holding and releasing the original throwing button although the player has to be in close proximity of the grenade and look directly at it.
