Domingo Chavez

From Rainbow Six Wiki

Domingo "Ding" Chavez is a famous, fictional character that is the subject of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six universe.

He first appeared in Tom Clancy's Clear and Present Danger as a covert operations squad scout sent to eliminate the Medillin Cartel's leader. However, he soon finds out that the operation was a setup by the Central Intelligence Agency and was meant to fail. When his entire team is wiped out (except for himself) and two other soldiers, Jack Ryan and John Clark rescue him. As he is being extracted through helicopter, he sees the Cartel leader trying to fire upon Jack Ryan amidst the chaos. With only a few bullets left in his weapon, he shoots and kills the leader.

After these events, Clark becomes Chavez's mentor and partner in the Central Intelligence Agency. Together, the undertake various covert missions in the events of The Sum of All Fears, Debt of Honor, and Executive orders. During Debt of Honor Chavez becomes engaged with Clark's daughter, Patricia. They eventually have a son together, John Conor Chavez, making Ding's mentor/father-in-law a grandfather.

Around ten years after they met, John Clark proposes the creation of the new, multinational counter-terrorist unit Rainbow and asks Ding to lead Team 2 of Rainbow unit. Clark would be Rainbow Six, Director, while his friend Alistair Stanley would be Rainbow Five, Deputy Director.

Ding's first mission as a Rainbow team leader was to prevent the hijacking of a plane's flight to London along with Alistair Stanley and John Clark. With the rescue a success, he is called into action once again when a group of terrorists attack and rob an international bank. After the terrorists kill a hostage, Ding and his team move in, resulting in a standoff and Ding's team eventually neutralizing the hostage-takers.

Afterwards, another terrorist group attacks a Spanish amusement park, again taking hostages. To scare the hostages, John Clark orders the power to be cut in the park. However, the plan backfires and instead of scaring the terrorists, it only angers them. To show their anger to the world, the terrorists execute a hostage: a terminally ill female Dutch child. To prevent any further deaths, Clark orders an emergency counterattack to take back the park. Ding and his team immediately wipe out the terrorists, saving the rest of the hostages lives.

Suspiscious of the fast-paced terrorist attacks that happened recently, John Clark launches an investigation. During his investigation, he realizes that a former KGB general named Dimitry Popov has been hired to orchestrate these events to raise world security issues at the Olympics, in which the ones who hired him would infect the stadium with a disease that would wipe out most of the human race to rebuild Earth. Popov is not informed of the purpose.

In the middle of John Clark's investigation, a group of IRA terrorists sees the danger of Rainbow, and decide to cripple it. They attack a hospital where Clarks daughter and wife work, and ambush Rainbow's response, nearly wiping out Team 1. The remnants of Team 1 and 2 destroy the terrorists.

Afterwards, fearful of another terrorist attack, John Clark orders Ding to go to Sydney to coordinate with the security agencies protecting the athletes and viewers for the 200 Sydney olympics and watch out for the possibility of another terrorist attack.

Clark's suspiscions are confirmed when Popov realizes what is happening, and tells Clark the plot to release a virus inside the Sydney sports arena. The virus was called Shiva, a more powerful version of the Ebola virus. The plot was to infect the athletes and viewers, and then it would spread when everyone went back to their home countries. Afterwards, the terrorists would send out more of the virus all over the world, disguising it as a vaccine. Afterwards, when everyone in the world (except for the terrorists) would die, the terrorists would rebuild the world, turning it into a more environmentally friendly planet and starting over.

Fortunately, Ding is already at the site and he manages to put together a team and take down the terrorists. With the leaders of the terrorist group traced to a remote location in the Amazon rainforest, Ding and his team take them down and steal the survivors' necessities including their food, water, and clothing. Ding hopes that this can wipe out the rest of the terrorists becasue he knows that it would be hard for a bunch of inexperienced terrorists to survive in the wilderness without their necessities.

The ending, however, has a surprise twist: Popov, when he had found out of the plot to destroy humanity, had killed one of the associates of the plan, and when he realized that gold was discovered on this man's land, had taken it.

[edit] Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear

Two years after the events of the original game, RAINBOW is again called into action, this time to hunt down and neutralize a "Rogue Spear", or a non-state entity possessing and distributing nuclear weaponry. Chavez leads Team 2 through multiple missions and eventually take down the leaders of the operation, Russian mob boss Maxim Kutkin and arms dealer Samed Vezirzade.

[edit] Rainbow Six: Black Thorn

Shortly after the events of Rogue Spear, RAINBOW is again put to the test, when a mentally disturbed ex-SAS operative challenging the black-ops unit to reenactments of actual terrorist attacks, including the Japanese Embassy Siege. Ding Chavez, along with the rest of the RAINBOW operatives, pass each test and ultimately neutralize the ex-SAS operative.

[edit] Rainbow Six: Raven Shield

The year is 2005. In one RAINBOW's best known operations, field commander Ding Chavez leads Team 2 in investigating a series of attacks comitted against South American oil sources and European financial districts. RAINBOW eventually traces the attacks to Argentinian billionaire, Nikola Gospic. Sixty years earlier, Gospic was a Nazi official in Croatia, who escaped with huge amounts of Holocaust loot before Allied troops could move into the capital. Now Gospic is dying of cancer of the liver, and plans to leave one last legacy of hate for the world by resurrecting the international Fascist movement. To do this, Gospic, through his vast finanacial wealth, has acquired VX Nerve and Blister gas, which he intends to distribute throughout South America through his ownership of a meat packing plant. However, RAINBOW catches wind of this plan, and leads a raid against the plant, efectively stopping the plan.
