The AUG A1 in reality

The AUG (German:Armee-Universal-Gewehr), also known as the STG.77, is a bullpup assault rifle manufactured by Steyr Mannlicher that chambers the 5.56x45mm NATO round.[1]

There are variants of the AUG that appear in the Rainbow Six universe. These variants are the AUG A2, A2 Para, and AUG A3.

The AUG is categorized as an assault rifle in the Rainbow Six universe. The AUG appears in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield, and Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3: Black Arrow. The AUG A2 appears in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege, while the A2 Para only appears in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Lockdown. The AUG A3 appears in both Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas, and Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas 2.

The standard weapon of the Austrian Army, the 5.56mm AUG AR is a futuristic looking assault rifle with a compact bullpup design. It is well suited for missions requiring the maneuverability of a submachine gun combined with the punch of an assault rifle.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege

"GSG 9's medium to long range assault rifle. Capable of firing 770 rounds/min."
— In-game description

The AUG A2 is an assault rifle featured in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege. It is available for use by GSG 9 Recruits and the Operator IQ.

Situations and Terrorist Hunt

In the Neutralize Cell Situation, the character plays as IQ equipped with an AUG A2 and a P12 as a sidearm. In these game modes, Terrorists often use this weapon quite frequently.

Characteristics

The AUG A2 is a Jack-of-all-Trades assault rifle thanks to its manageable fire rate of 770. This allows it to perform well against other submachine guns while still being manageable enough to control the recoil of this gun.

Trivia

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Lockdown

  • The A2 Para is a fictional variant of the AUG. The name of the weapon seems to be a combination of the AUG A2 and AUG Para.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas 1 and 2

  • The AUG A3 lacks a fire selector in real life and instead has a two stage trigger that acts as a fire selector for the weapon. In-game, the weapon is incorrectly shown to have a fire selector, despite this not being possible in real life.
  • Like some other weapons in the game, the AUG A3 is always modeled with a foregrip, and the game does not count foregrips as attachments.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege

  • IQ's AUG A2 receives the Bartlett University skin after completing the Article 5 situation.
